Founded in late 2023, Benevolent Sin was a much-needed departure from my previous brand of music. In the years prior, I released music under the online pseudonym “Stevesaintjames.” It was a name I selected at random upon creating my first video game username as a child, entirely meaningless and wholly unrelated to my identity as an artist. With a new album on the way and my sense of self rapidly evolving after high school, I knew it was time for a fresh start.

Benevolent Sin started as a unique mix of heavy metal imagery and bright hyperpop aesthetics. The signature skull and harsh lettering appeared in bright blues and pinks—the exact hex codes of the bisexual pride flag. It was an attempt to bring together my queer identity, my colorful personality, and my increasingly dark music under one cohesive label.
