Galactic Attack! is a simulated 8-bit arcade game inspired by retro classics like Space Invaders and Galaga. The animation was presented at the 2024 Images in Motion Film Festival.

This project was an exercise in world-building and visual storytelling. I carefully created assets that would both fit the art style and communicate information with very little visual data. A major part of the project involved developing the rules of the game on a conceptual level. I took the time to decide what each enemy type would do, how they would act, how scoring would be calculated, and how shields and health would work. There were some enemy types and events that were cut from the final version so as not to overcomplicate things. While the concept is simple, it still takes a great deal of forethought to be convincing.

The background music was composed and produced by me. I took inspiration from classic video game battle music and orchestral pieces, and used bitcrushing and compression to capture the classic retro video game sound.

All assets were designed in Adobe Illustrator, animation was done in After Effects, and scoring was done in Ableton Live.
